Samsung will apply its 2nm GAA process technology to HBM5 memory, targeting 50% performance improvement over HBM4E through optimised base die design and denser TSV pitch. The move positions Samsung as the only vertically integrated HBM manufacturer, controlling design, fabrication, and packaging end-to-end.

◆ The Wire takeaway

If you build AI chips that need HBM, Samsung just locked in a 50% bandwidth advantage and can tune memory and logic together because it owns both ends of the line. Your competitors buying HBM elsewhere are now on older nodes.
