Virgin Media hit with record Ofcom fine for broadband cancellation complaints
Ofcom fined Virgin Media £28 million for systematically obstructing customer cancellations between 2022-2024 through transfer delays, retention schemes, and process failures. The fine is Ofcom's largest consumer protection penalty; One Touch Switch, introduced September 2024, has since eliminated the cancellation route Virgin Media exploited.
The Wire takeaway
If you're selling broadband switching or retention tools to UK ISPs, the regulatory route Virgin Media took—transfer delays, agent incentives, repeats—is now a prosecutable violation with 10% turnover fines attached. Build for compliance, not friction.
