India's Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the UK came into force on 15 July, granting duty-free access for 1.1 million tonnes of steel annually. The deal mitigates impact from the UK's new 51% reduction in total duty-free steel quotas and 50% tariff on excess volumes.
◆ ◆ The Wire takeaway
If you're an Indian steel maker, you've just locked in a 1.1m tonne safe passage to the UK market whilst everyone else faces a 50% tariff on overages starting immediately. Call your logistics provider and your UK customers this week - your competitive window is real and quantified.
