Jigawa State Government has launched a digital tax platform through its Internal Revenue Service to replace manual collection with real-time monitoring and direct payment systems, targeting informal sector traders and businesses. The platform, powered by etranzact International, aims to increase monthly revenue collection from the informal sector to at least ₦500 million whilst eliminating revenue leakages, following a prior digital reform that raised internally generated revenue from ₦27.5 billion (2023) to ₦62.6 billion (2024).

◆ The Wire takeaway

If you build tax or payment infrastructure for African governments, Jigawa has just proved the model works at scale: informal sector revenue more than doubled in one year after digitisation. etranzact now owns the government relationship and the playbook - your opening is to become their supplier for the next 35 states.
