The UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is mandated to produce a statutory Code of Practice on AI and automated decision-making under the Data Protection Act 2018, effective from 2027. This Code will impose compliance requirements on all businesses subject to UK GDPR that develop or use AI for decision-making, including firms outside the UK serving UK individuals.

◆ The Wire takeaway

The UK’s new AI Code places legal accountability squarely on you if your business uses AI to make decisions about people, even if you don’t build the AI. Get your AI impact assessments in order now to avoid falling behind before the code takes effect.
