Project Captured, a maritime carbon capture pilot, has secured regulatory recognition from the EU ETS and in-principle IMO backing for carbon mineralisation as permanent CO2 storage. The pilot demonstrated a 7.9% net greenhouse gas reduction with 99.95% CO2 purity maintained across the entire value chain from ship-to-ship transfer through to industrial binding.

This Wire brief sits within Fusion42's coverage of Climate Tech.

◆ The Wire takeaway

If you supply carbon mineralisation equipment or industrial products that bind captured CO2, shipping lines now have a regulated route to claim emissions credits for the CO2 they bind—and IMO just guaranteed that route won't change. Call every major carrier and shipping finance house this week: their decarbonisation capex has just become cash-generative.
