Engineering concepts propose converting SpaceX's Starship into a horizontal lunar base camp by burying it under regolith for radiation and micrometeorite protection. This approach leverages Starship's large pressurized volume to provide habitat space comparable to the ISS in a single landing, radically altering the economics of lunar surface habitation.

This Wire brief sits within Fusion42's coverage of Government & Space.

◆ ◆ The Wire takeaway

The economics of lunar bases just shifted. You building lunar habitats should now plan for large single-delivery living space using Starship conversions cost-effectively rather than multiple module launches.
