Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, known as Nano Banana 2, will be deprecated on October 29, 2026, twelve days after its replacement Nano Banana 2.1 launched at roughly half the price. The open-source MOSS-Image, released on October 16, 2026, offers a self-hosted alternative without a shutdown date and competes closely in text rendering while excelling in layout precision.

◆ ◆ The Wire takeaway
Your access to Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image ends in less than two weeks, forcing you to choose between adopting a cheaper, newer Google model or switching to the open-source MOSS-Image that runs on your infrastructure. Switching now can cut your costs sharply and avoid surprise shutdowns but requires adapting to self-hosting.
